Behind the scenes – Ocean, Jungle and Sky themed cake

We posted some pictures of an Ocean, Jungle and Sky themed cake a couple of weeks ago, which many of our blog and Facebook page followers enjoyed. Here are some behind-the-scenes pictures taken while we worked on the cake and the toppers. Most of these photos were taken with our phones, so we apologize for the crappy picture quality.

Giraffe – We had a little trouble keeping his head and long neck attached to the body. This picture was taken when we managed to keep him intact for about a couple of minutes
Lion – Attaching his mane is a lot harder than it looks

Making of Nemo

From time to time, we share some pictures of how we create the fondant toppers that go on top of our cakes. The last cake that we did was an underwater themed tiered cake with Nemo on the top tier. Nemo was created entirely in fondant and here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how we made the little fella.

Making of Dora cupcake toppers

A lot of people have asked us how we create the fondant toppers that go on our cakes. As you can expect, a lot of work goes into creating each topper by hand. We usually don’t get a chance to document how we do this, but there was one time when we did remember to take lots of pictures. 🙂

We had made Dora themed cupcakes for a little girl’s birthday last month, and the cupcakes had hand-painted pictures of Dora, Boots and Swiper. Although the toppers did not involve a lot of modeling with fondant, we hope the pictures give you a fair idea how we hand-painted each topper individually.

So, without further ado, we present to you – the making of Dora cupcake toppers.
